You think you know or you want to know, what certain Steelwing songs are about or refer to, just share your thoughts here!
What about "Lunacy Rising"? I mean it's about a lunatic, that's for sure, but is it refering to some movie or literature?

I don't want to ruin the songs by explaining too much, but I'd love to hear your interpretations of the lyrics!
To answer your question though: Lunacy Rising doesn't refer to any specific fiction.

At some parts it sounds to me a bit like someone who is in death row, waiting for his execution..?
"Cries in the night in the absence of light I'm alone Chained in my cell I am trapped in this hell down below..."
and
"Cursing the arrival of the coming day.."

Well, I'd also say that (at least in the first two strophes) it is implied that the "lunatic" is facing death ("a wind that's gentle yet cold", "I lift my eyes toward the light", plus the references to autum like the hunter's moon)...
Maybe I am interpreting too much nonsense after doing my final exam among others in Religion and German with a focus on Romanticism, but I'd really like to know if anyone could explain the God/Satan references (just a guess as "He" and "His" are capitalized and "Angel of Light" -> Lucifer?). Perhaps it's just me...

Passages like
"My master is quietly watching, awaiting the time The final rebellion; the self-righteous brother must die"
and
"Pulling the mountains exposing the cracks of the Earth Pushing the oceans ashore as if cleansing the world Be that my mission, O Master, I'd gladly obey I'll follow you every command to the end of my days" also make me think of Lucifer as his "master" somehow...
"Guardian of the Night" would fit as well I guess...?

Ok, I'm once again relieved, that I'm not too mad . But can we connect all that to a whole?

Okay.....let's try and say the "lunatic" is somehow convinced that Lucifer has given him the duty of "cleansing the world". He probably has been murdering people- I assume due to the line "The final rebellion, the self - righteous brother must die" and is now in death row? I'm not too sure, maybe you go first? ^^

As the beer befuddles sense, I'll go with your interpretation

"the self - righteous brother" is the sun. Also sun and moon might be light and dark, good and evil. In that sense, the protagonist obiously is filled with evil.
...(merged double-post)
Listened to Nightwatcher and thought it might be the same lunatic as in "Lunacy Rising". He's also referring to a master, which would be the moon again and also doesn't want the sun to rise.

Almost 14 years ago I wrote some vocalist about a song I felt strongly related too (it was a very personal song). a close friendship grew out of it. before that I never felt the need to do this, and I never felt this need again. Steelwing lyrics contribute to my fantasy, its stimulating my thoughts!! Discussing the meaning would ruin the magic of the songs I guess. The lesser I know the bigger the mystery. And do we all not need a little mystery in our lives............
